In 1988, following a reorganization of the Constance-Lethbridge Rehabilitation Center, Health Canada’s Innovation Program supported the creation of three self-managed work modules: Amalgame Montréal inc., Coude à coude Montréal Inc., and Main-Forte Montréal inc. These initiatives were designed to give people with physical disabilities the opportunity to take part in meaningful daytime activities that reflected real work environments.
Over the years, Amalgame Montréal has grown into a participatory organization where members are at the heart of everything we do. Participants hold the majority of seats on our Board of Directors and guide key decisions at the Annual General Assembly. They also play an active role in running our mini-cafeteria. Since 1996, at the request of our main funder, half of the Board seats have been officially reserved for participants, further reinforcing their leadership.
Our management team supports this mission by taking care of administration, accounting, institutional representation, and fundraising, ensuring that participants remain the driving force behind Main-forte Montréal.
Mission
Our mission is to provide adults with physical disabilities, who are distanced from the job market, the opportunity to take part in meaningful daytime activities inspired by real work environments. In doing so, we aim to break isolation, foster self-worth, and encourage active involvement in their community.
We also strive to create a welcoming space for integration — a place where social connections and friendships can grow and flourish.
